Our lives are full of family, dogs, friends and plenty of rural living.   We spend several hours a day with our dogs – from exercising them, camping and four wheeling with them.  They are our constant companions.  It requires dedication but we find joy and happiness with them.   All our dogs are highly socialized and get along well with people and other pets.

In the Spring of 2008, we returned home from an Easter outing to the west desert of Utah to find a delivery from the Easter Bunny – a small black puppy.  We were stumped-no idea where or who he had come from.  We took him inside, fed, bathed and immediately feel in love with him.  At the time we had two large outside dogs and we  were not very excited about having a third but, this little guy stole our hearts.  So after some discussion and promises from our teenagers to help care for him, we decided to keep Smugly (that’s the name we came up with).  He lived with us for four wonderful years, a constant companion to each of us.  When the kids were feeling down he would sit with them and do something to make them smile.  He brought us all a great deal of love and seemed to help us be better people.  On Memorial Day 2012, Smugly ran in front of a car and was hit.  We buried him in the orchard and placed a stone to mark the site.  We were devastated – this little black dog had lived with us, slept beside our bed and was a part of our family.  Not only were we grieving but our yellow lab (8 years old) and springer spaniel (14 years old) were grieving.  One day shortly after Smug left us I went outside to find our Springer laying beside the marker.  As you can see from the ages of our other pets we hadn’t lost a dog before and were not used to what it felt like.  After 6 months we decided to try and find another “Smugly” but you know what there were none to be found so we began to search in earnst.  Asking ourselves what was it about him that we loved?  We accessed the AKC website and began reading about breed characteristics and personalities.  After much searching we found a close match – Cairns and Westies.  Now I know, that somehow Smugly found us, but now how to find a Cairn?  Well, I began scouring the internet and found a wonderful breeder in Nevada – we are blessed to have our girl Chloe.  She has the same mischief and love that our Smugly had.

In an attempt share the joy and enrichment that Smugly gave us, we decided to breed Cairns.  They are in our home and raised with love and tenderness.  Each have a distinct personality, but one thing they all have in common is that they love their people.
